There’s a real argument for 2014’s Alien: Isolation being the best licensed video game ever made. True to its name, you’re (nearly) alone on a space station with just a single xenomorph for company: an invincible, wickedly intelligent foe pursuing you throughout the entire game. What can a normal human do against that? Run, hide, and distract, mostly.
It’s that sense of vulnerability and helplessness, not to mention the Alien’s extremely sophisticated AI even by modern standards, that makes the endless chase of Isolation so thrilling. There have been other Alien games since, of course, but none have quite measured up to the sense of dread conveyed by either the original 1979 film or Isolation — and most have fallen well short — until now, perhaps?
Out of nowhere, Alien: Isolation’s YouTube channel has posted a brief sequel tease — no title, just atmosphere and the original logo.
No other information has been revealed — no platform, no release window, no subtitle — except that the original developer, Creative Assembly, is working on this one as well. Aliens: Isolation, anyone?
