Almost two years after developer Creative Assembly first confirmed that work had begun on a sequel to its well-received 2014 horror title Alien: Isolation, a new teaser trailer has been released by Sega suggesting more news is on the way. All eyes are now on Geoff Keighley’s upcoming Summer Game Fest or potentially the Xbox Games Showcase this June.
The 25-second teaser trailer for the Alien: Isolation sequel, titled False Sense of Security, places an emphasis on building tension and atmosphere. Doors unlock to reveal an outdoors area pouring with rain, followed by a phone booth (the original game’s save stations) before cutting to black. The description in the video doesn’t give away too much detail either, simply stating: “A feeling of being safer than one really is.”
The original Alien: Isolation was praised at the time for its innovative AI used for the xenomorph, which learned and adapted to a player’s playstyle. For example, you could hide under tables or in lockers early on in the game but the xenomorph will gradually get smarter and start searching those hiding spots later in the game. It was a terrifying ordeal, personally speaking, and it’s equally terrifying to know that AI has since advanced over the past decade. The xenomorph might be able to do your taxes for you now.
Either way, fans are praising Alien: Isolation’s return. Now it’s just a matter of when we can expect an official reveal to happen. Geoff Keighley is set to host the next Summer Game Fest on 5 June (the annual gaming event that has since replaced E3) and it’s possible that we could see the sequel make an appearance there. Others believe it might show up at the Xbox Games Showcase on 7 June, which Microsoft already confirmed would also feature a Direct showcase afterwards for the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day.
