US President Donald Trump on Friday sad that a review of government material related to unidentified flying objects (UFOs) has uncovered a number of “interesting” documents, with an initial set of records expected to be released shortly.Speaking at an event hosted by the conservative group Turning Point USA in Phoenix, Trump indicated that the findings from the review had drawn attention within his administration.”We found many very interesting documents, I must say, and the first releases will begin very, very soon so you can go out and see if that phenomena is correct,” Trump told supporters, Reuters reported.The review was initiated in February after Trump directed US agencies to begin releasing files concerning UFOs, also referred to by the government as unidentified aerial phenomena, as well as information potentially linked to extraterrestrial life. The decision was framed around growing public interest in the subject.Trump had previously criticised former US President Barack Obama, alleging that classified information had been improperly shared after Obama commented in a podcast interview that aliens were “real”. Obama later clarified that he had not seen any evidence of extraterrestrial contact during his time in office, though he noted the statistical possibility of life elsewhere in the universe.Trump himself has said he has not seen evidence confirming the existence of aliens and remains uncertain on the matter.In recent years, the Pentagon has carried out multiple investigations into UFO sightings. US defence officials stated in 2022 that no evidence had been found suggesting extraterrestrial visitation or crash incidents on Earth.A Pentagon report released in 2024 also concluded that decades of US government investigations, dating back to the end of the Second World War, had not uncovered any evidence of alien technology. It further stated that most reported sightings were later identified as ordinary objects or natural phenomena that had been misinterpreted.
