Last week, Sega dropped a surprise Alien: Isolation 2 teaser for Alien Day, revealing that we’re finally headed planet-side in the sequel. It’s unclear where exactly ‘planet-side’ is (it might even be moon-side!), but one fan has a pretty compelling idea.
From the 25-second clip alone, all you can make out is that it’s raining and there’s a bird. There’s not a lot to work with when deciphering what exact celestial body we might be visiting. However, u/Tall_Ad_1426 made an interesting point: the iOS-exclusive game Blackout ends with Amanda Ripley leaving a recorded message, revealing that she is now charting a course for a manufacturing colony and should arrive there in three days, with the intent to continue on to Earth.
KOI–125.01 is only mentioned in Blackout, so details on the colony are scarce. But assuming Isolation 2 continues Amanda Ripley’s story, rather than introducing a newcomer to the franchise, it would make sense to pick up where things left off. However, Blackout was developed by D3 Go, not Creative Assembly, and while it may have followed Amanda Ripley just days after Isolation, Fox stressed that it is not a sequel.
What Happened After Blackout?
Regardless, there’s no information on what happened at the mining colony. We know that Amanda got back to Earth thanks to the comic book sequel Resistance, in which she stumbles on a Weyland-Yutani black site experimenting with colonists, but there’s a convenient gap between the ending of Blackout and her arrival back home. Creative Assembly could plug that gap.
Of course, it all hinges on the sequel actually following Amanda, but it’s worth noting that before Alien: Isolation 2 was greenlit, the team would bounce ideas around in the office on what a follow-up might look like, a “daily topic in the studio,” and lead game designer Gary Napper revealed that the writers had several ideas on how “to continue her story.”
So, it’s likely that the sequel will once again focus on Amanda, but whether it will continue from Blackout is another matter entirely. If nothing else, the pieces all snap together nicely: the last we saw her in the games, she was headed planet-side, and now, the sequel is headed planet-side too. Hopefully, we’ll find out more soon enough.
