Universal Pictures just revealed a first look at the aliens in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming sci-fi movie Disclosure Day.
Up until now, the trailers for Disclosure Day have not revealed what the aliens look like, instead focusing on the human characters, like Emily Blunt’s Margaret Fairchild, who is shown in the very first trailer emitting odd alien-like clicking sounds while on TV working as a meteorologist.
The just-released 30-second teaser for Disclosure Day, however, changes all of that and starts to unveil more of the extraterrestrial mystery. Check out the promo below:
The Disclosure Day teaser begins with Colman Domingo’s Hugo Wakefield talking about a “79-year cover-up of the truth,” which he wants to break wide open. Colin Firth’s Noah Scanlon, though, claims the human race wouldn’t be able to “accept what we know.”
Several fast-paced clips are included in this new promo, including Josh O’Connor’s Daniel Kellner standing in the middle of a crop circle, an alien spacecraft arriving, and Daniel holding hands with Margaret as they say to each other, “Whatever happens, don’t you let go.”
There’s also a shot of two worried-looking children lying down in a bright room as they reach their hands towards each other. In a voiceover, Hugo says, “It’s the two of you. It’s always been just the two of you.”
The end of the teaser shows some sort of device lowering down above the girl’s head as an alien’s long-fingered hand reaches up to touch her face.
Disclosure Day marks Spielberg’s return to sci-fi after 2018’s Ready Player One and his first alien film since 2005’s War of the Worlds. Before that, the acclaimed filmmaker directed two other alien movies that are considered some of the best in the genre, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, both of which won multiple awards at the Oscars and two Best Director nominations.
Spielberg’s long-time screenwriting partner, David Koepp, wrote the script for Disclosure Day, which stars Blunt, O’Connor, Firth, Domingo, Eve Hewson and Wyatt Russell. Spielberg is producing the film with Kristie Macosko Krieger.
More to come…
