Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg is finally set to return to the big screen in 2026 with Disclosure Day, which will be his first theatrical release in four years (his longest gap in releases since the 1990s). Following his work on movies like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, War of the Worlds, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Spielberg will dive back into a new alien-centric story for his next project. Starring Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Wyatt Russell, the story will center on the global impact of Earth’s population discovering that extraterrestrial life has been present and hidden amongst them all along, forcing them to change their view on the concept of life.

Amidst theories that this movie may be a secret Close Encounters sequel, this film will also reunite Spielberg with writer David Koepp, who previously worked together on the first two Jurassic Park films, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Universal kicked off the promotional tour for this new movie in December 2025, teasing the public’s reactions to a wild news broadcast from Emily Blunt’s character before the realization hits that aliens exist. Now, a new look into the movie sheds light on what to expect from the alien side of this exciting story.

Universal Pictures released a new TV spot for Disclosure Day, the newest movie from acclaimed director Steven Spielberg. Using numerous shots that were already shown off in the movie’s first trailers, this spot shared an exciting first look at the alien creatures who will be a central piece of Disclosure Day’s narrative. At the end of this 30-second sneak peek, a young girl is shown lying on a table as a series of lights come down right above her face, and a set of alien hands come up to feel the sides of her head.

The fingers on those hands appear to be somewhat humanoid, although they are much longer and skinnier than human hands. The skin is dark green, and the fingertips are slightly more bulbous than human fingertips. Additionally, there are only three fingers on the end of this hand instead of the four that humans have, and a thumb has not yet been revealed.

Alien movies have had a major resurgence in the 21st century, including some of Spielberg’s most recent projects. The marketing tour for this movie has already set the stage for one of the creepiest and scariest movies of the year, largely hiding the actual alien presence in the story until now. While more footage of the aliens in this film may be released in the weeks leading up to its release, Spielberg and his team may keep most of their material hidden to help raise suspense and anticipation for how they will impact this new thriller.

Disclosure Day will debut in theaters on Jun. 12, 2026.
