Can someone explain which of these is “real”?

Both of these are on NASA’s photos page and they seem to be the same picture (orientation, clouds and land, sun position), but obviously the brightness is very different. So are they considered the “same” picture? Do they dial-up the brightness as post-processing before releasing? Thanks.
