SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — The Pentagon has released hundreds of never-before-seen files tied to unidentified flying objects, giving the public a new look at decades of government investigations into unexplained sightings. More documents are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
Those who have wondered what the government knows about UFOs can now look for themselves.
UFO researcher and podcaster Jim Quirk spoke with ARC Salt Lake about the newly released files and why he believes the government is still withholding key information about unidentified aerial phenomena.
Quirk said he has not had the chance to go through everything the government released.
“There’s a lot of information there. It’s hard to go through absolutely everything, but I got a good taste of it by what I did see,” he said. “It’s a lot of videos, it’s a lot of documents.”
Quirk said many of the files appear to show unusual objects captured on military cameras, though he believes the government has still stopped short of fully explaining what they are.
“It’s exciting for people who are interested in this subject. At the same time, this does not represent disclosure of any sort,” Quirk said. “We’re still not there yet. We’re not at the disclosure point. The government is still covering things up.”
Quirk believes some of the information being withheld could involve recovered aircraft or technology that officials do not want made public.
“They most certainly have hidden from the public recovered alien craft, or non-human intelligent craft. Some people believe that these beings are from here, somehow,” he said.
Quirk claimed the government has been hiding the truth of alien aircraft for 80 years, and that eventually they would release additional information.
“I think they’re starting to come clean because they want to keep this in the public view. They want the public to think about this for a while, and then they’re going to release all the information at some point in the future,” he said.
Still, Quirk said he doubts the government will ever fully reveal everything it knows about UFOs or unexplained aerial sightings.
“I really find it difficult to believe the government would come out with full disclosure, because maybe there are some things that they would be afraid to share with the public,” Quirk said. “Who knows what the reaction would be.”
When asked which of the newly released materials stood out the most, Quirk pointed to one unusual video in particular.
“There was a star-shaped object that was moving across the sky, and was filmed in the Middle East somewhere just a few years ago. What is it – I don’t know. It’s very exciting,” he said.
Quirk said some people believed the object was either a camera anomaly or just a flare.
“See, the problem is the government releases this stuff, but at the same time, they don’t provide a full explanation, and they say they don’t know what it is,” he said. “I believe some people in the government do know what it is, and they’re not being fully transparent about that.”
