Flight instructor performs evasive maneuver at 4,500 feet to avoid a stationary, unidentified object.

The report states:
A flight instructor conducting a training flight near the CSN VOR at 4,500 feet took evasive action to avoid a stationary, unidentified object. The object was dark grey or black, shaped like a vertical dumbbell or engine block, approximately the size of a small car. The witness filed an ASRS report with NASA following the encounter.

Summary

A flight instructor conducting a training flight near the CSN VOR at 4,500 feet took evasive action to avoid a stationary, unidentified object. The object was dark grey or black, shaped like a vertical dumbbell or engine block, approximately the size of a small car. The witness filed an ASRS report with NASA following the encounter.

Location: CSN VOR, approximately 4,500 feet MSL

Duration: ~30 seconds

Number of Objects: 1

Number of Observers: 2

Witness Background

General aviation pilot and flight instructor. Student pilot was also present at the controls during clearing turns when the object was spotted.

Event Narrative

On May 22, 2022, at approximately 1200 local time, a flight instructor was conducting a training flight near the CSN VOR at 4,500 feet. The student was at the controls completing clearing turns to set up for a practice maneuver when the instructor caught a glimpse of an object off the nose of the aircraft.

The instructor immediately took the controls and executed an abrupt evasive maneuver to avoid a collision. The object did not resemble an airplane or helicopter. It had no wings or rotors and was completely stationary. As the aircraft passed the object in a turn-around-a-point fashion, the instructor was able to observe it closely but could not identify what it was.

The object appeared dark grey or black with no reflective glinting. Its shape resembled a vertical dumbbell or engine block, approximately the size of a small car. After the encounter, the instructor resumed the training flight in a safe direction away from the object.

Following the incident, the witness filed an ASRS report with NASA. He received a callback but was unavailable. When he returned the call, he was told the follow-up was "no longer necessary."

Analyst Notes

This incident involves a near-collision requiring immediate evasive action during a routine training flight in controlled airspace near a VOR navigational aid. The object was stationary at 4,500 feet with no visible means of propulsion or aerodynamic surfaces.

The witness filed an official ASRS report with NASA, indicating he treated the encounter as a legitimate safety-of-flight event.

Was probably rounded and dumbbell shaped like the classic dumbbell UFOs* not look literally like a dumbbell but the ai prompt was also probably simple

That is surprisingly similar to something I once saw. Except it was landscape, not portrait and more of a flying + sign if you viewed it front on. It was obsidian black and flying clockwise about 500ft in the air.

From the book *Visitors From Time – The Secret of the UFOs* by Marc Davenport:

    >Another uncanny “super power” that UFOs exhibit-their apparent ability to change shape-may be closely related to their appearances and disappearances.

    >At 9:05 P.M. on **June 29, 1954, Capt. James Howard was piloting a British Overseas Airways Corporation airliner** from New York to London. Southwest of Goose Bay, Labrador. He and his first officer sighted several dark UFOs pacing their plane at about the same altitude. The whole crew and some of the passengers watched. **There was one large object that changed from a jellyfish shape, to that of a dart, to that of a dumbbell**. Several smaller UFOs swarmed around it “like a group of fighters acting as a bomber escort.” Goose Bay said there were no other aircraft in the area and sent a fighter plane to investigate. When the fighter approached, the UFOs faded into invisibility-except for one, which grew smaller and vanished. Capt. Howard had, by the way, flown 7,500 hours.

  4. So it did not occur to them to turn around and get a better look at whatever they thought they saw? Sure, in the moment you just evade but immediately after should be a ‘what was that?’ thought and you turn the plane around and look. It’s not like they were locked to a flight plan, they were just doing training.

And yes, I am a licensed pilot. I have seen weird things but in every case they turned out to be truly mundane and frankly embarrassing that I was worried about them. Like one time the Moon surprised me. Things look … odd .. sometimes, out of context and with no distance reference in many cases stuff can look odd.

  5. Okay hear me out… what if instead of “dumbbell” shaped, this is what the alleged 4chan leaker (the underwater manufacturing facility guy) meant by “tiny hammers”?

Im convinced we have multiple breakaway groups, some more behind than others. This is straight up DIY breakaway group #7 or something.
