Not historian or Christian but is 300 to 500 years after the beginning of Christianity early? I mean, there must be art from earlier times.

There was definitely some controversy surrounding the depictions of Jesus with the “magic wand”. It certainly seems than many early artistic works show Jesus with a wand. I personally feel that the term “magic wand” interpretation has more to do with a much later understanding of the wand’s function or purpose. I definitely think it’s interesting and worth exploring. Why was there a wand depicted?
I also think the way his hands or fingers are being depicted is equally significant. These are very intentionally translated by these early artists and it was for a reason. Thank you for sharing these. They have value and are an important part of the early Christian community and need to be explored
