If you’re going to light paint don’t go so heavy with it. Drag the light from left to right (or vise versa) just once. Under ten seconds of light exposure for the whole move. That will give the foreground enough light to work with in post without over exposing the shot. Light painting is like salt. You don’t need too much to be effective.

First Milky Way capture of the season.
The conditions were extremely foggy, but I still managed to pull this shot out of it.
