The “Lion Rock” of Sri Lanka (Sigiriya). A massive palace built on top of a 660ft monolith in the 5th Century. It still has working hydraulic fountains. How did they achieve this engineering precision 1,500 years ago?

This is Sigiriya, often called the 8th Wonder of the World. Mainstream history says King Kasyapa built this as a fortress in 477 AD, but the engineering is mind-blowing for that time period.
* **The Hydraulics:** An intricate underground water system pushes water to the summit using pressure. The fountains still work today during the rainy season.
* **The Mirror Wall:** A wall so polished that the King could see his reflection in it.
* **The Megalithic Aspect:** The precision of the granite cutting rivals structures found in Peru and Egypt.
We just released a short documentary exploring the engineering mysteries behind this site.
This just in: ancient civilizations were not stupid, and cool things were being accomplished well before European colonizers stumbled onto them. More at 11.
