What was I looking at?

Location: southeast MO
Tonight I was outside bringing my dogs in before bed. I looked up at saw what I thought was a super bright star. It wasn’t moving, was just really bright and kind of an odd shape. Sort of long for a star I thought. I decided to take a picture of it and a second later wanted to get another picture and all of the sudden it was gone. I’d love to sleep tonight so if anyone could explain this I would appreciate it.
