SpaceX’s fuel depots will be a “subversion” of the Starship HLS

“Starship propellant depots are a subset of the lunar lander variant with many of the crew support systems removed. The propellant tanks have increased volume to maximize propellant capacity and the spacecraft’s exterior optical properties are optimized for long duration propellant storage while in Earth orbit.”

  2. They never return to Earth, so inevitably they’re far more similar to the HLS Starship than the heat tile clad winged starship.

See, this is why we need the humanities.

    It’s sub-version

    Not subversion.

Subversion is the act of subvert.

the undermining of the power and authority of an established system or institution.

Very interested to see what the docking hardware will end up looking like for fuel transfer, and how precise the attitude control and approach will have to be with such large vehicle faces mating

  5. do people still thing elon will get these into space? he promised a lot and so far has burned a lot of money for very little to show for. his tales of future greatness is now a story told for more than a decade, when will people see that this man is a charlatan.

Nasa will not get to the moon with elon. In fact he promised to have people already on the moon. thats what the money he got for was.

So… using the solar panels of HLS. Is that what they mean by removing most of the crew life support equipment? “Most of” is a curious phrase. Same height? It’d make sense for it to not have the V3 height, propellant is so dense.

  7. Imagine that rocket, but with a fairing on top. That design could launch giant space telescopes bigger than JWST. It could launch giant space stations. I do hope they consider an expendable second stage for the launch market.

    Edit: typo. It’s early.
