Just when you thought summer couldn’t get any weirder, the Pentagon has released its third batch of declassified UFO files, and the reports read like something straight out of The X-Files.

The latest release includes 72 documents, videos, images and witness accounts dating from the 1940s through 2026. While there is still no smoking gun proving extraterrestrial life exists, there are plenty of head-scratching stories that continue to defy explanation.

Among the most talked-about cases is a 2022 sighting near Colorado Springs where Army personnel reported seeing a shimmering object described as resembling a giant potato floating in the sky. Witnesses said the oddly shaped craft appeared covered in irregular, scale-like panels before vanishing after about two minutes. Investigators suggested sunlight reflection as a possible explanation but admitted confidence in that conclusion was low.

Another intriguing report involves glowing red and orange orbs repeatedly spotted by federal law enforcement officers in both the Northeast and western United States. Some witnesses described a larger “mother orb” releasing smaller lights that moved independently before regrouping. Others reported hovering plasma-like spheres that changed shape and color. Despite extensive investigation, officials have not reached definitive conclusions.

For the first time, several newly released videos feature footage captured by civilian witnesses rather than military personnel. One video from July 2025, labeled “Northeastern Orb Sighting,” shows two bright lights moving across the night sky while eyewitness interviews accompany the footage.

The files also reveal that government investigators have examined sightings well beyond U.S. borders. Cases include reports from Zimbabwe, where a rotating disc allegedly emitted beams of light over an airport, as well as other international incidents that remain unexplained.

Before anyone starts packing for a trip to Area 51, Pentagon officials stress that none of the documents provide evidence of alien spacecraft or extraterrestrial visitors. Most cases remain categorized as unresolved, meaning investigators simply don’t have enough information to determine what was seen.

Still, the release has reignited public fascination with UFOs, or as the government now calls them, UAPs (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena). Whether the mysterious objects turn out to be advanced technology, atmospheric phenomena, classified military projects or something even stranger, one thing is certain: Americans remain captivated by the possibility that we’re not alone.

And honestly, if a giant flying potato is involved, who can blame us?
