Thursday’s weather caused scheduling changes for Mid-Prairie’s baseball contest with West Liberty, but ultimately the two teams came together to get the game in with the Comets taking a 5-0 win. Originally scheduled for Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman, the venue was moved to West Liberty because of wet conditions in Wellman and the Comets home turf field. The Golden Hawks operated as the home team on the scoreboard and batting. West Liberty broke the scoreless tie with a run in the third and piled on four more in the fifth. They out hit the Hawks 8-3, led by a two hit, two run day for Lleyton Simon and a two RBI game for Pierre Shield. The big story were the Comet arms with Cole Wagamon and Carson VanDusen combining to throw seven shut out innings with just three hits, one walk and two strikeouts. Wagamon was the winner going five and two thirds. The Hawks had a hit apiece from Bronx Miller, Kale Miller and Brooks Weber. Kale Miller and Peyton Brenneman threw seven frames collectively with seven hits, four earned runs, three walks and three Ks. Miller took the loss with his five innings of work. The win for West Liberty gives them the season series over the Golden Hawks after the two teams split a Monday doubleheader in West Liberty. The Comets stand at 7-8 and Mid-Prairie 5-9.
