Steven Spielberg’s sci-fi film Disclosure Day is now playing in Ukrainian theaters. The film explores the idea that aliens have been visiting our planet for a long time, but the government has been keeping it a secret. And now the day has come when the film’s protagonists reveal the truth to all of humanity.

Disclosure Day
On Friday, June 12, Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi blockbuster Disclosure Day hits theaters worldwide. As the title suggests, the plot centers on the revelation of a truth that is vital to all of humanity.
The trailers make it clear that this must be the truth about UFOs. Extraterrestrial civilizations exist; what’s more, they have already visited Earth, but the truth is so unbelievable and terrifying that the government is keeping it a secret. However, the brave heroes who have access to the classified files are ready to reveal it to the whole world.
The trailer doesn’t make it clear exactly what makes the truth about aliens so terrifying and unspeakable. It reveals far too much. Anyone or anything could turn out to be an alien or an agent of an extraterrestrial civilization.
So what will the movie be about?
The biggest intrigue and the biggest reason to go to the cinema to watch Disclosure Day is that everything described above is so clichéd that it’s hard to imagine anything more formulaic in a story about contact with aliens than all this “revealing of the truth.”
It has long since been reimagined by popular culture on numerous occasions, including in the form of movies and TV series. It’s hard to come up with anything here that would genuinely surprise the audience. And the fact that it is Steven Spielberg who is attempting to say something about this adds even more intrigue.
The thing is, Spielberg has already explored the theme of mysterious and unsettling events happening all around us. That story centered on aliens visiting Earth, while the U.S. government kept it a secret. The main character tries to convey the truth to people, but they try to make him look like a madman. In 1977, Close Encounters of the Third Kind was released—the film that, in fact, made Spielberg famous.
In the nearly 50 years since then, Spielberg has returned to the theme of aliens time and again, and for the most part, it has been a success. This makes it all the more intriguing to see whether the acclaimed director can bring anything new to the table. You’ll have to go to the theater to find out.
