THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Emerging from the heart of the Massachusetts underground, shoegaze/emo quintet The Dreamtoday return with their sophomore album, We Won’t Survive The Comet.
Following the foundation set by their 2022 debut A Static World, the new album finds the band tapping into their full potential across 12 new tracks. The quintet — the dual-vocal dynamic of Violet Nowak and Nicky Russo (guitar/vocals), alongside guitarist Ricky Metters, bassist Matt Como and drummer Tim Muzzy — have crafted a sound defined by a massive, heavy wall of guitars and immersive, dreamy atmospheric textures coated in lush melodies and big hooks. Described as “earth-shattering alt-rock from outer space,” the band’s sonic DNA draws from shoegaze royalty like My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Ride, Swervedriver, Catherine Wheel, Lush and Chapterhouse. They sharpen that nostalgia with the grit of modern emo and the “nu-gaze” sensibilities of acts like Trauma Ray, Narrow Head, Glare, Nothing and Whirr.
We Won’t Survive The Comet is a rich sonic landscape where big, soaring melodies and infectious hooks emerge from dense, layered instrumentation. The band effortlessly balances this hook-driven sensibility with a heavy punch and raw emotional vulnerability. Anchored by the previously released singles Crystal Sky, Breathe and Neon Zoo, the new record promises to push their expansive production to new heights while maintaining the intimate, gut-wrenching songwriting that has become their hallmark.
“We Won’t Survive The Comet tells a story of delusional grandeur and finding hope during the end of time,” the band share. “We pieced this album together carefully over the course of three years. The process itself was a journey, and we hope that the essence of that experience reflects onto these songs.”
Bridging the gap between ’90s distortion and the 2020s melodic emo-tinged grungegaze sound, The Dreamtoday are poised to deliver their most expansive and intimate work to date.”
