BAXTER — Colton Moffit allowed two hits over four innings on the mound and led the Baxter baseball team with two hits and two RBIs at the plate during a 16-0 home win over BCLUW on May 29.
Baxter jumped on the Comets for seven runs in the first inning, plated eight in the second and ended the Iowa Star Conference South Division game early due to the mercy rule.
Hayden Burdess
The Bolts out-hit BCLUW 7-2, and the Comets committed two errors.
Moffit allowed no runs on two hits and fanned seven in the complete-game win. He improved to 4-0 and lowered his earned run average to .44 for the season.
His four wins are the most in the state, his 32 strikeouts rank third and his ERA is third in Class 1A among those with at least 10 innings pitched. Hayden Burdess led the Baxter offense with a double, one run, four RBIs, one walk and one hit by pitch and Cael Wishman doubled, scored two runs and had three RBIs.
Burdess leads Baxter with a .400 batting average and Wishman has scored a team-best 11 runs.
Liam Trent totaled one hit, two runs, two walks and one steal, Nolan Hill chipped in one hit, two runs, two RBIs and one walk and Brecken Maxwell finished with one hit, two runs, one RBI and one hit by pitch.
Grayson Scroggins walked once, scored two runs, totaled one RBI and stole one base, Colten Damman walked once, was hit by a pitch and scored one run and Blake Maxwell walked three times, scored two runs and had one RBI.
Blake Maxwell leads the Bolts (4-2, 2-1 in the conference) with five walks.
Zander Johnson contributed one run, one RBI and one walk, Eli Schnieders scored one run and Nyle Brown walked once in his varsity debut.

Ethan Petermeier led BCLUW (1-2, 1-2) with a double and a triple.
Baxter 8, Collins-Maxwell 4
BAXTER — Damman registered his third career save and had two hits at the plate, Wishman tripled and scored four runs and the Bolts started fast and never trailed in an 8-4 home win over Collins-Maxwell on May 26.
Baxter led 5-0 after two, out-hit the Spartans 7-6 and took advantage of three Collins-Maxwell errors in the ISC South win.
Damman finished with two hits, two RBIs, one walk and one steal and Wishman totaled two hits, one triple, four runs, one walk and one steal.
Burdess doubled, scored two runs, had one RBI, walked once and stole one base, Trent chipped in one hit and two RBIs and Hill totaled one hit and one run. Trent leads the Bolts with seven RBIs.
Moffit drew three walks, Brecken Maxwell walked once and Schnieders scored one run.
Moffit tossed the first three innings on the mound and got the win after allowing one earned run on three hits and three walks. He struck out seven.
Damman’s first save of the season included nine strikeouts over four innings. He allowed three runs — two earned — on two hits, one walk and one hit batter.
Cael Wishman
Landon Vaughn led the Spartans (2-4, 2-1) with two doubles and two RBIs.
North Tama 10, Baxter 9, 9 innings
TRAER — The Bolts dropped their first conference game of the season following a 10-9 road loss to North Tama on May 27.
Baxter trailed 3-1, led 5-3 and scored two in the top of the seventh to force extra innings, but North Tama won the ISC South game with a single run in the bottom of the ninth.
The game featured 19 runs, 18 hits and 15 errors. The Bolts out-hit North Tama 10-8 and committed seven errors.
Burdess, Trent and Moffit all had two hits to lead the Baxter offense. Burdess scored two runs and stole two bases, Trent doubled and had two RBIs and Moffit drove in one run.
Wishman totaled one hit, two runs, one RBI and three steals and he was hit by two pitches.
Blake Maxwell doubled, scored one run and had two RBIs, Brecken Maxwell chipped in one hit and one walk, Damman had the other hit and Scroggins scored two runs.
Hill was hit by a pitch and scored one run and Johnson scored one run.
Wishman started on the mound and took the no decision after allowing eight runs — three earned — on three hits, four walks and one hit batter in five innings. He struck out six.
Hill took the pitching loss. He surrendered two runs — one earned — on two hits, two walks and two hit batters in three innings. He fanned three.
Kayler Morris led the Redhawks (2-3, 2-1) with three hits, two runs, two RBIs and two steals. Clayton Williams added two hits, two runs and two steals.
