The Comets hosted St. Johnsbury on Saturday, May 30. Prior to the game, the Comets recognized their eight seniors. Unfortunately, Aubrey Marchessault is fighting an illness and was unable to attend. We’re hoping and praying that she gets healthy soon. The six seniors who played each contributed a hit on this cold, blustery day.

Chatham Brouillette stole the show offensively with two home runs, the second of which was a grand slam. She could have easily gone 3-for-3 as her first at-bat went to the fence before the wind kept it in the park. The Comets won 12-0 in five innings

Senior pitcher Megan Gonyeau got her seventh win on the mound by throwing a three-hit shutout with no walks and 10 K’s in five innings. At the plate, she had a double.

Senior catcher Nora Tatro picked off a runner at first and had a hit at the plate; senior right fielder Jillian Smith had a hit and a walk; senior Left fielder Molly Parah had a hit in three chances and drove in a run; senior first baseman Ella Dunigan had a hit and a walk in three at bats; senior third baseman Maggie Dunigan had a hit in three at bats with two RBI, and senior Manager Natalie Matas, did another great job with the scorebook, and provided positive energy in the dugout like she has done all season.

Coach Berthiaume’s thoughts on the seniors: The Comet coaching staff would like to recognize their eight seniors who have exemplified the meaning of being a Comet. They’re all good athletes, but more importantly, they’re all great young ladies who have represented our team, our school, our community, and their families with class, pride, and spirit. They’ll leave us soon, as they pursue their dreams and take their next steps on their journey. They’ll always be Comets and will have a special place in their coaches’ hearts.

What’s next? The Comets will be the No. 1 seed in Division 1. They’ll receive a first-round bye and will host a quarterfinal game next Friday or Saturday. The playoff schedule will be coming out tomorrow.
