Following the emergency incident, Hitchin Swimming and Fitness Centre has confirmed that its outdoor and indoor swimming pools will be closed for the remainder of the day.
Tim Melvin, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We can confirm a boy was rescued by a lifeguard from Hitchin Lido.
“Emergency services were called and the boy was taken to hospital.
“We send him our best wishes and hope he makes a full recovery.
“The indoor and outdoor pools will remain closed for the rest of the day, but will reopen tomorrow (May 29).
“The gym is open as normal.”
