SKIPTON Film Club is finishing its most successful season yet with a cult science fiction horror.

Ridley Scott’s brilliant blockbuster, Alien, will bring the season to a thrilling end at the Plaza Cinema, Skipton, on Sunday, June 7.

After being woken from their sleep by a distress signal, the crew of the space cargo ship Nostromo visit a bleak and distinctly creepy planet where they pick up an unwanted and terrifying shape-shifting monster.

“As any fan of the Alien franchise knows, what will follow is a nerve-jangling fight to the death between the crew and the creature,” says a club spokesperson.

“The film is an absolute masterpiece of design and direction, with HR Giger providing the famous part-organic part-machine designs, including the Freudian nightmare that is the alien, and Ridley Scott the brilliantly paced direction.

“Add to this a wonderful cast, headed by Sigourney Weaver in a career-defining performance as the iconic Ripley – one of the greatest female roles in film history.”

The club believes now is the perfect time to return to the classic movie.

“To see it on the big screen at the Plaza is a chance to go back to where it all started and an opportunity to experience the visceral thrills it still provides.

“With Alien we feel we are ending our most successful season yet with a bang, and we’re excited to be sharing it with the filmgoers of Skipton and Craven. Join us as we celebrate the ultimate creature feature film.”

Alien certificate 18, is at Skipton Plaza at 5.15pm on Sunday, June 7.
