Comets soar to state; June Miller wins 3 events

BREMERTON — Naselle track athletes have important dates on their calendars.
The WIAA 1B State meet will again be hosted by Eisenhower High School in Yakima from May 28-30.
The 1B qualifying meet at Bremerton was set up so the top eight boys in each event and the top seven girls advanced to state.
NHS sophomore June Miller, state champion in the 400 meters last year, won Thursday in a new personal best time of 57.14 seconds.
She also won the 200m in 25.86, recording another PR. In both races she beat her own school records.
She also won the high jump, clearing 5-feet-2 with senior Mylee Dunagan tied for third.
Sophomore Karsen Green matched her 9-6 PR to win the pole vault and was fifth in the triple jump. Junior Sophia Colombo was fourth in pole vault and junior Shaylee Suomela sixth, both setting PRs by clearing 8 feet. Mercy Schell also had a PR, clearing 7-6.
Sophomore Halle Miller placed second in the 100m hurdles with Colombo sixth. In the 300m hurdles, Colombo was fifth and Miller sixth.
Freshman Kenzie Larson placed sixth in the 3,200m.
The 4x100m relay squad of the Millers, Colombo and Dunagan placed second, a whisker behind Neah Bay.
The Comet boys will also send competitors to state. In pole vault, senior Jason Gardner was fourth, junior Bo Dunagan was fifth and two freshmen, Bowen Burkhalter and Romain Garcia, tied for seventh, both clearing 9-6 for PRs.
Junior Andy Rosas placed seventh in the triple jump.
