LA PLATA, Maryland — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said his government is creating a fund dedicated to building a secure satellite communications network that would be compatible with Europe’s Iris2 multi-orbit constellation but focused on Spanish military requirements.

Many details of the “Special Modernization Program” remain unclear, including the amount of its financing and the timing of the investment. One industry official said the program appears to be similar to what the Polish government decided in 2025.
