Q&A with Dahlia Steele
What have you most enjoyed about playing with this year’s Comet lacrosse team? I’ve enjoyed the energy and overall connection within the group. It’s really an amazing team, and a super close group which helps in games and practice.
What three skills has lacrosse taught you over your high school career? Through my high school career, lacrosse has taught me many things. A few of the most important are the ability to support others, composure on and off the field, and the right mindset. I think all three of these skills are very important in my everyday life, and lacrosse has played a huge role in helping me gain confidence in them.
In what three ways have your coaches helped prepare the team to succeed this spring? Coach Mary Pipes has had us focusing a lot on the mental side of the game this season. We’ve talked about goals, Hopes, and the impact positivity has on your overall performance. I think being able to hear each other and connect through goals has helped the team as a whole better support one another. She also pushes us every day to do our best. She supports everyone individually and does what’s best for the whole group. Her drive to do the best we can pushes everyone to work hard, and it has had a huge impact on our games.
Comets’ Coach Mary Pipes: Dahlia is a very talented athlete who works very hard at her craft. She puts the time in to perfect her skills, and it shows on the field. Dahlia dominated the draw against South Burlington in our May 19 win. She has had draw control in our last several games, which gives us a big advantage. Dahlia is a tremendous leader on and off the field and has been a captain for several years. The underclassmen really look up to her. She’s a well-loved player by coaches and teammates, and we’re very proud of her success.
