Abington Heights tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a single by Avery Venesky, then scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the ninth as the Lady Comets edged North Pocono, 3-2, to complete an undefeated Lackawanna League Division I softball season Friday.
Adriana Condrad had two hits, including a RBI double in the bottom of the third for Abington Heights (14-0, 19-1). Avary Brister also had two hits. Brianna Bustos allowed two runs and four hits in eight innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts. Riley Duggan pitched a scoreless ninth with one strikeouts and wound up getting the win.
Avarie Roscioli hit a pair of solo home runs for the Lady Trojans (11-3, 15-5).
Montrose 4, Elk Lake 0: At Elk Lake, Alayna Mott and Anna Evans combined on a six-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts as Montrose capped a perfect Lackawanna Division III season.
Mott went six innings, scattered six hits, walked four and fanned 10. Evans worked a scoreless seventh with one strikeout.
Both also paced the offense for Montrose. Mott had a double and one RBI, while Evans added two hits, including a double, and one RBI for the Lady Meteors (14-0 league, 16-2 overall).
It was a tight game throughout as Montrose led, 1-0, from the third inning before scoring three times in the top of the seventh.
Miah Rosin and Madlyn Ely had two hits apiece for the Lady Warriors (10-3, 12-7).
Western Wayne 10, Lakeland 3: At Western Wayne, Hannah DeStefano was 4 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead the host Lady Wildcats past Lakeland in Lackawanna Division II action.
Winning pitcher Adysen Wargo helped her cause by going 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs. Khole Mistishin and Rheagan Wargo each scored twice for Western Wayne (4-10, 5-13).
Kamri Naniewicz led the Lady Chiefs (4-10, 5-13-1) with two hits and two RBIs. Abby Ross and Alexis Tolerico also had two hits each. Ross and Olivia Lach tripled and Olivia Cunningham doubled.
Mid Valley 14, Honesdale 4 (5 inn.): At Mid Valley, Natalie Hricenak homered twice and drove in four runs to power the Spartanettes to a Lackawanna Division II five-inning victory.
Marley Morano added two hits and two RBIs for Mid Valley (12-2, 17-3). Julie Prisco and Avery Tinney both chipped in two hits and Angela Laskowski contributed two RBIs. Ava Hazelton allowed just two hits and one earned run with three walks and 12 strikeouts.
Ella Taylor had a double and one RBI for the Lady Hornets (0-14, 1-19). Addyson Considine added one hit and one RBI.
Baseball
At Susquehanna, Lackawanna Trail only had three hits, but took advantage of 12 walks and six errors to notch a 9-1 win over the host Sabers on Friday and clinch a share of the Lackawanna League Division III baseball title.
Sean Dwyer, Ashton Thiel and William Evans each singled for the Lions (11-3 league, 11-7 overall), who wind up tied for first place with Montrose. Evans also was the winning pitcher, allowing two hits in six shutout innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Caedon Stone led Susquehanna (4-10, 5-12) with two hits.
North Pocono 9, West Scranton 0: At North Pocono, Mike Hatala and Brayden Von Ahnen combined on a five-hit shutout as the Trojans blanked West Scranton in a Lackawanna Division I matchup.
Hatala allowed four hits in six innings with one walk and one strikeout. Von Ahnen worked the final inning, giving up one hit and fanning one.
Connor Ruddy had two hits, including a triple, for North Pocono (8-6, 10-10). Dylan Hunter and David Jones knocked in two runs each, while Jake Reese and Jake McHugh both doubled.
Mason Lesh led the Invaders (5-9, 5-15) with two hits and Evan Walsh doubled.
Lakeland 7, Montrose 1: At Lakeland, J.P. Malak tossed a complete-game seven-hitter as the Chiefs won a Lackawanna Division II-III crossover game.
Malak allowed an unearned run, walked one and struck out four. He threw 86 pitches, 62 for strikes. He also helped himself with a double and one RBI.
Kody Miller had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for Lakeland (13-6). Chase Magnot added two hits and two RBIs and Jackson Pochas contributed two hits.
Kasey Carey had two hits and one RBI for the Meteors (13-6), co-champs in Division III with Lackawanna Trail.
Dunmore 16, Holy Cross 0 (4 inn.): At Throop, Evan Mizenko had two hits and two RBIs and Jamie McMynee homered and drove in three runs as Dunmore breezed to a Lackawanna Division II win in four innings.
Nate Grochowski and Jaedyn Kura added two RBIs apiece for the Bucks (10-4, 13-7). Mason Stets and Jackson Cady each allowed one hit in two scoreless innings.
Jacob Shedlauskas and Matt Fox had the hits for the Crusaders (0-14, 0-18).
