Space Camp embarks on a new era with the opening of the Inspiration4 Skills Training Complex, offering cutting-edge experiences for future space explorers.
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A new chapter for Space Camp is officially taking off!
The U.S. Space and Rocket Center cut the ribbon on the news Inspiration4 Skills Training Complex on Friday — a massive new facility designed to help train and inspire the next generation of explorers. The complex adds nearly 50,000 square feet of new training space to the USSRC.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman helped fund the project with a $15 million dollar donation last year. He attended Space Camp at 12 years old and says it helped shape his career in aviation and space flight and hopes this new facility will do the same for others.
“This facility is going to be a pathway for campers to experience all the most important technological domains. So you got Space Camp, Aviation Challenge, Cyber Camp, Robotic Camp; think about it. I mean, these are all the most important technological domains that we want kids to grow up and contribute for really the competitiveness of the nation,” Isaacman said.
The building features multiple new training experiences, including FAA-certified flight simulators, a two-story indoor ropes course, virtual reality landers and a new mission control flight operations simulation, allowing campers to try out career paths beyond just becoming an astronaut.
“It’s not just about being an aerospace engineer. There’s so many different things you can do in the space industry,” said Space Camp Hall of Fame Executive Director Tim Bailey. “And this really highlights that in the Mission Control Center. You can direct satellites. You can help do trajectory planning. They even have robotics courses where you can build the rovers that are going through and exploring other planets.”
The new experiences won’t just be for kids. The rocket center says the complex will also host family programs, multi-generation camps and adult space academy experiences, giving people of all ages a change to train like an astronaut.
The first campers are expected to begin training in the new facility during the 2026 summer camp season.
And the USSRC says there’s even more on the way. A new mission floor currently under construction is expected to open by the end of the year, allowing campers to simulate missions to the Moon and Mars.
