Twenty-one times Colchester came to the plate against Irie Shedd on Tuesday, May 12, and 21 times they were out. 18 of the 21 outs were by a strikeout. Shedd fielded a bunt for another out, and Chatham Brouillette handled the other two ground balls at second. The second of which was a gem that kept the perfect game intact.

We have had many great pitchers wear the Comet uniform, but I believe this is the first seven-inning perfect game ever thrown for us. I have always said every good pitching performance happens because the pitcher has the confidence in their catcher. Nora Tatro was outstanding behind the plate.

Offensively, the usually good-hitting Comets struggled for the first three innings, and the score was 0-0 entering the top of the fourth.

Nora Tatro singled for the first hit of the game. She stole second, and the ball eluded the Colchester defense, and Tatro was able to come all the way around the bases on the play for the first Comet run.

In the fifth inning, Isabella Stuart hit a deep home run to give the Comets a 2-0 lead. In the sixth inning, Marah McGinn hit a home run to give the Comets a 6-0 lead. In the seventh, Khloe Carpenter lined a single to left, and Emma Parah was hit by a pitch. After a flyball advanced the runners, Carpenter scored on a wild pitch. Parah scored on a double by Marah McGinn. An infield single by Jillian Smith and heady baserunning by McGinn plated the sixth and final run of the game, giving the Comets the 6-0 win over the Lakers.

The Comets move to 8-0 on the season and travel to Champlain Valley Union on Thursday, May 14, and host Mt. Anthony on Saturday, May 17 at 1:00 p.m.
