Pentagon Releases 162 Declassified UFO/UAP Files Spanning 1948–2026 - News and Statistics

The Pentagon has initiated the release of files on UFOs, also called Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), according to a report from Euronews. The first batch includes 162 declassified documents spanning from 1948 to 2026, comprising 120 PDFs, 28 videos, and 14 images sourced from the Department of Defence, the FBI, NASA, and the State Department. The collection features old State Department cables, FBI documents, and NASA transcripts from crewed space flights.

The newly launched website hosting these documents has a retro aesthetic, with black-and-white military imagery of flying objects and typewriter-like font statements. While some notable sightings are included—such as a bright object executing 90-degree turns over Kazakhstan and Buzz Aldrin observing a light source during Apollo 11—there is no definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life or technology. Some US lawmakers are advocating for greater disclosure. Many documents remain partially redacted to safeguard identities and locations, and a significant portion of the material is considered unresolved, unremarkable, or previously discussed in public.

The release aims to enhance transparency, though experts caution that the videos can be misinterpreted. Current President of the United States Donald Trump stated in a Friday Truth Social post that the release allows people to judge the evidence for themselves. The revelations are described as vague.

One document details an FBI interview with a drone pilot who, in September 2023, reported seeing a linear object with a light bright enough to discern bands within the light. The object was visible for five to ten seconds before the light extinguished and the object vanished. Another file is a NASA photograph from the Apollo 17 mission in 1972, showing three dots in a triangular formation. The Pentagon notes in an accompanying caption that there is no consensus on the nature of the anomaly, but a preliminary analysis suggests it could be a physical object.
