BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A group of local high schoolers is contributing to the exploration of the final frontier.

After months of hard work, an all-girl group of eight Frontier High School students flew to Texas as finalists in the annual NASA HUNCH competition. The program challenges students to find solutions to real NASA encounters.

It turns out that Texas wasn’t the final frontier for the girls, either, as on Thursday they were heading to catch a flight for a CBS Mornings town hall segment with the Artemis II astronauts.

“They are so ecstatic,” Michael Delmont, a science teacher at Frontier High School, said. “I think that the eight girls that I have are basically, like, the leaders of the international Christina Koch fan club.”

The students said going to Texas to present their projects was an award in itself, and now going to New York City to sit in the same room as Artemis II crew members is an opportunity they never would have imagined.

“To see the first woman going up to the moon, it’s so incredible,” Alisha Izzy, a senior at Frontier High School, said.

The students were able to submit questions for the town hall, which is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday.
