Crestwood led from the third inning on, but needed to hold off a late Hazleton Area comeback bid for a 7-5 win in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 softball on Friday in Hazle Twp.
Kayla Sinavage had two doubles and four RBI as the Lady Comets (7-7, 4-5 WVC) completed a rare season sweep of their conference rivals.
Sinavage finished 3 for 4, while Celia Stahlnecker was 2 for 4 with two runs. Alexa Toniatti and Holly Rodgers also added two hits in the win.
Brooke Lenahan was the winning pitcher, striking out three and scattering seven hits, two singles apiece by Sofia Rodgers and Emme Zanolini, Kayla Lagowy’s double and a single each for Saige Klesh and Mikayla Barletta.
Rodgers and Bella Boyle each drove in runs for Hazleton Area, which has dropped five straight games to fall to 6-9 overall, 4-4 in the conference.
Crestwood twice led by five runs, but the Lady Cougars never quit. They pecked away until bringing the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lenahan, however, worked her way out of the jam.
Schuylkill Haven 12, Marian 7
In Hometown, Alli Scherer belted a triple and three singles, scored four runs, knocked in another three and picked up the save in relieve as the Hurricanes outlasted Marian in a Schuylkill League Division II thriller.
Winning pitcher Joie Schoffstall worked the first five innings, before giving way to Scherer in the sixth. She kept the Fillies (9-7, 6-6) off the scoreboard in the sixth and seven as Schuylkill Haven won for the ninth time in 10 games.
Aisley Jenan and Lexi Mull added two hits apiece and Kaitlyn Russo delivered a two-run triple for Haven (12-6, 9-3).
For the Fillies, Malina Letcher again sparked the offense with a triple, two singles two runs scored and three RBI. Teammates Hailey Treskolasky , Kayla Birrer and Chloe Cannon each chipped in two base hits.
Minersville 20, Shenandoah Valley 0
The Battlin’ Miners (11-7, 8-4) erupted for nine runs in the top of the second inning on their way to a five-inning dusting of host Shenandoah Valley (1-17, 0-12) in another Division II contest.
Kylie Herb stuffed the winners’ stat sheet with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. Teammates Bella Rizzardi and Rilynn Brennan contributed three hits apiece and combined to score five runs and drive in four more. Grace Sterner, Bella Cruz and Ava Bosack also delivered two hits apiece.
Cali Laudeman benefited from the offensive barrage, limiting the Lady Devils to a single by Brynn Burke over finve innings.

Dallas 3, MMI Prep 2
Dallas advanced to the semifinals of the District 2 Class 2A Team Championships with a close win over the Preppers in the quarterfinals.
The Mountaineers will advance to the semifinals Tuesday morning at Kirby Park to face off with Holy Cross, a 4-1 winner over Dunmore.
Andrew Avila won at No. 3 singles for Dallas, and the Mountaineers swept in doubles. The team of Preston Harris and James Rakos won at No. 1 doubles, while Nathan Eyet and Zane Drezek picked up a victory at No. 2 doubles.
MMI Prep’s Max Bleiler and Jack Farrell won their singles matches, both needing three sets.

In Wright Twp., Spencer Young won at No. 2 singles and Jack Groth picked up a win at No. 3 singles to lead Crestwood in the District 2 Class 3A Championship tennis quarterfinals.
The Comets will advance to the semifinals Tuesday afternoon at Kirby Park to face off with No. 2 seed Valley View, a 5-0 winner over Delaware Valley.
The doubles team of Eric Gee and Jacob Hunsinger won at No. 1 singles for the Comets. West Scranton’s Matthew D’Augustine won at No. 1 singles, while the doubles team of Antonio Fiorillo and Michael Evanosky won at No. 2 doubles for the Invaders.

Krieger and Ialeggio knocked in five goals apiece as the Red Rovers downed Hazleton Area in a non-league game. McLean added two goals for the winners.
Macie Maylath accounted for four of the Lady Cougars’ goals. Lauren Harmonosky had the other. Teammate Madelyn Gaizick was credited with an assist.

Jim Thorpe Olympian Invitational
North Schuylkill’s Genevieve Dando swept top honors in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs in the annual event. She nipped Jim Thorpe’s Logan Gillespie at the wire in both races – 5:22,38-5:22.51 in the former and 11:51.32-11:53.07 in the latter.
The Spartans’ Luke Miller sprinted to a win in the 100 meter dash in 22.23 seconds to outkick Shamokin’s Adrian Alexander and East Stroudsburg North’s Hermari Daniels.
A total of 21 team competed. In addition to athletes from North Schuylkill, Mahanoy Area, Marian, Panther Valley, Shenandoah Valley and Weatherly also were represented.
