The Dogon tribe in Mali possesses advanced knowledge about the Sirius star system, which was only discovered by modern science centuries later. How did they acquire this information?

  1. Job 38:31

The bible talks of constellations that are gravitationally linked. They, mainly God, knew of this thousands of years before we did.

Even talks of hot springs in the oceans that we “discovered” in the 1970s.

  2. Wrong! And OP knows it, because every time this BS gets posted, it gets shot down by the actual facts from redditors with integrity and a desire for truth.

  3. So outright lies are “alternative history” now? Better watch out before the holocaust deniers hear that.

This may not be true, but if it were, the idea that only westerners can have advanced knowledge of anything is dumbfoundingly ignorant.

The Dogon’s Sirius revelation is cultural contamination from Griale’s visit. In the Dogon mythos, twins were important and some stellar bodies, particularly bright ones, were important, however the Dogon did not know that Sirius was a binary star system.

Edit: just to add to this. It’s kinda wild that people still buy in to this when the Dogon didn’t know about outer solar system bodies that they couldn’t see with the naked eye but somehow were informed about Sirius only. Zero knowledge of other star systems, including systems closer to the Earth, or of relevance in their religious rituals.

The information the Dogon people have on planets in our solar system, which only stretches up to Saturn, was gained through cultural contamination from Europeans.

The Sirius part was completely made up by a guy named Robert K. G. Temple, in a book he wrote in 1945.

  8. I think on of those masks had a cameo in the the Batman movie with Michael Keaton, anyone remember?
