Jose Lopez won the triple jump (43 feet- ½ inch) and high jump (5-10), and Matty Burke was first in both the 100 (11.2 seconds) and 200-meter dashes (23.6).and he ran a leg on the winning 400 relay team as Hazleton Area downed Crestwood, 84-66, in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1 boys’ track and field, Wednesday, in Wright Twp.

Lopez’s first in the high jump led a Cougars’ sweep in the meet’s final event, clinching the team win. Earlier, Lopez finished third in the long jump.

Nolan Paulino (400, 51.9 seconds), Joel Vasquez (discus, 147-11) and Christian Matos (800, 2:00) were Hazleton Area’s other individual winners.

Matos joined Gavin Adams, Carter Fellin and Damian Vargas on the first-place 3200 relay team, which won in 8:59

For the Comets. Elijah Zeneski won the 110 hurdles (15.3) and 300 hurdles (43.2). Victorious teammates included: Logan Spaide (shot put, 46-2)), Mason Staude (1600, 4:39), Chris Burgette (long jump, 20- ½), Jonah Partington (3200, 10:58), Anson Jumper (pole vault, 12-6) and Noah Everett (javelin, 152-2).

Crestwood’s 1600 relay team of Thompson, Zaroda, Jennings and Zeneski also won 3:32.

H.S. Girls’ Track and Field
Crestwood 91, Hazleton Area 59

The host Lady Comets swept all three relay races and nine of their athletes won individual events in their team victory.

Katie Kozich picked up the win in the 1,600 run, while Grayce Grazio was first in the high jump (5-0). Sophia Kwarcinski (300 hurdles, 51.7), S. Pasternick (discus, 94-3)), Lila Ruch (800, 2:27), Jordan Andrews (long jump, 15-9), Keiser (200, 27.2), Anna Zaroda (3200, 12:54) and Isla Centak (javelin, 110-10).

Taking top honors for the Lady Cougars were:

Allison Young (100 hurdles, 17.1), Sonia Diaz (100, 12.8), Julie Tejeda (shot put, 31-3 ¼), Adrianna Flintosh (triple jump, 33-10), Jayla Eberts (400, 1:00.4) and Allyson Wolfe (pole vault, 9-6).

Both Hazleton Area teams will compete in the Blue Mountain Invitational on Friday in Orwigsburg.

MMI Prep 4, Holy Redeemer 1

At Kirby Park, the Preppers didn’t drop a game in singles as MMI got the road WVC win.

Max Blieler, Jackie Farrell and Joe Mayernik were all winners in singles. Farrell has now notched six straight wins. He’s 72-1 in games this week.

The team of Jake Cipriani and Jack Antinnes earned the Royals’ lone point at No. 2 doubles.

Bleiler, Farrell and Sharan Parikh gave the Preppers a sweep of the three singles matches. Parikh’s 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-4 win over Martin Ortiz was the afternoon’s closest singles match.

The Tigers took both doubles matches.

In Wright Twp., it was another dominating day for the Blue Knights on the tennis courts, dropping just one game in a sweep of the Comets.

Billy Hall, Dhruv Sudhakar and Stefan Zecar all won, 6-0, 6-0, in singles.

Singles: Hall over Young, 6-0, 6-0. Sudhakar over Groth, 6-0, 6-0. Zecar over Wychock, 6-0, 6-0; Doubles: Bobeck-Hill over Gee-Hunsinger, 6-0, 6-0. Nguyen-Huang over Graybeal-Harrison, 6-0, 6-1.

H.S. Boys’ Lacrosse
Crestwood 20, Lake-Lehman 7

Kevin Schlude had a big game, and the visting Comets rolled past Lehman on the black turf.

Schlude had seven goals and four assists to pace the Comets. Logan Lawson added four goals and four assists and Ty McConnell and Gianni Picolotti added a hat trick and two assists.

Anthony Magnotta led Lake-Lehman with two goals and two assist.

H.S. Girls Lacrosse
Crestwood 18, Pittston Area 7

In Wright Twp.,, Jordan Andrews picked up her 200th point, and Addison Knorr got her 100th point in the Comets’ win.

Maddalyn Boop, Nyla Knorr and Gia Caporuscio each had three goals in the win. Jackie Gallagher added two, while Andrews had two goals and four assists.

Milania Widdick had five goals to pace the Patriots.

H.S. Boys’ Volleyball
Crestwood 3, Delaware Valley 1

At Matamoras, the Comets dropped the first set, but rallied for the win over the Warriors, 16-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23.

JJ Stec finished with 27 kills, including the 1,000th of his career. He’s also the first player in Crestwood boys volleyball history to hit the mark.

Zack Koons ended with 37 assists and 10 points, and Luke Joseph added 25 digs. Larry Little added 11 kills and 13 digs.

Wilkes-Barre Area 3, MMI Prep 0

The Wolfpack swept the visiting Preppers, 25-13, 25-9, 25-10

Ali Mehran led MMI with three kills, three digs and three service points. Hassan Arain contributed two kills, four assists, four digs and two service points and Akshay Narayanshetty had five service points, two digs and one kills.

Wilkes-Barre Area won the junior varsity match, 2-0 (25-9, 25-20).
