RICHARDSON, TEXAS – UT Tyler men’s and women’s tennis delivered big victories on Wednesday, with the women winning 6-1 and the men winning 7-0.

The two teams were originally due to square off on Tuesday, but rain throughout the day forced the match back 24 hours. From there, more rain on Wednesday morning forced a further delay until later in the afternoon.

WOMEN’S MATCH: #26 UT Tyler 6 | UT Dallas 1

UT Tyler delivered a stout effort throughout the match, coasting to a big win against the Comets. They would start by sweeping all three doubles matches, with the pairs of Maria Antonio Ortega / Paula Castellanos and Claudia Di Leonardo / Carla Rodier delivering 6-1 wins in lines #2 and #3. Yona Bancarel and Natalia Gorzny added another win in the #1 line, this time in a score of 6-3.

In singles, Bancarel and Gorzny put the Patriots on the doorstep of the win in lines #1 and #2. Bancarel dropped just two games in her match, winning 6-0, 6-2. Gorzny would follow in line #2, also dropping just two games overall in wins of 6-1, 6-1.

The winning point quickly followed as Rodier delivered the knockout blow in the #4 line. She won her match in straight sets in scores of 6-3, 6-3.

The Patriots tacked it on down the stretch, with Di Leonardo coming back from a 2-6 first set to take a 6-2 second set and eventually a 1-0 (10-7) tiebreaker. Castellanos followed in nearly the same format, splitting her first two sets 6-2, 2-6 before taking the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-8) to post the sixth and final win of the match for UT Tyler.

MEN’S MATCH: #6 UT Tyler 7 | UT Dallas 0

Like the Patriots women, the men got hot early and kept that momentum up as they swept each match of the day.

Samuel Antwi / Trevor Short in line #3 started the proceedings with a 6-0 win in line #3, and Malo Poulesquen / Job Japelj added another quick win in line #2 at 6-3.

The final doubles match was a close battle, but the Patriots pair of Carel Wessel and Daniil Felker took a 7-6 (7-5) win to cap off the sweep in doubles and give them a 1-0 lead.

In singles, Felker put together a blistering effort for the first Patriots point. He gave up just one game in two sets, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Right behind him was Antwi, who kept up the Patriots strong efforts with a straight sets win of 6-2, 6-4 to put the Patriots on the doorstep of the win.
