Everyone saying the reentry and parachute are the scariest part are forgetting 2 rockets the size of buildings have to be separated off the main even bigger rocket with explosions, while still low in the atmosphere traveling at a velocity relevant only to the BlackBird.

7:33 p.m. EDT: Orion’s crew module separated from the service module, exposing its heat shield for the spacecraft’s return through Earth’s atmosphere, where it will encounter temperatures of about 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Splashdown confirmed as of 20 seconds ago.

The engineering involved in this will never stop being impressive.

Omg that’s such a relief! One step closer to getting Artemis back on track 🚀💖 Space stuff always gets me hyped!

  5. What happens with the service module now? Will is just stay in orbit for the next Artemis mission? Or will Artemis 3 and 4 have their own module?
