I knew the far side was rougher and had more craters, but I never realised how extreme the difference was compared to the side we see from Earth.

Can you see what the Chinese are doing there, out of sight.

can somebody explain why all of the craters look a similar depth, no matter what the radius is? it would confirm a solid something beneath the crust.

Yep, I look at all those craters and say, what a great spot to build a base.

Man the moon has taken a pounding over the years. I’m sure we have too, but just do a better job of hiding it. I imagine having no atmosphere for space rocks to burn up in before impacting the surface is the big reason why the moon looks like this, but just conjecture.

Would it be possible for astronauts to land on the far side of the moon or would that not be feasible?

The Edward James Olmos side of the moon

How far away is it from the spot the picture is taken? If we were to travel to the surface of the moon from that spot, how long would it take as there is absolutely no gravitational pull.

Far out!

What are all the linear striations? It looks like there are latitude and longitude lines etched onto the surface…

What are the vertical lines? You can kinda see them between/under the craters. An image artifact or actual surface features?

Luna has had a rough life, but she’s gorgeous all the same!

Sometimes I wonder how can these astronauts go through such an insane experience, and then come back to live normal lives.
I just feel like a lot of things that seem important to us here, would seem irrelevant once you get a taste of the universe and see how small earth is from afar.

What is up with the big L shaped area, and the anomoly on the edge of the crater?

That’s no moon! It’s a space station.

Doesn’t look like a good place to live. Looks more like a shield.
One question: did we explore that side before? What about the non crew ships? How often we have looked at that (if we did it at all)?
it seem still far away because u can see the curvature …why cant we zoom in like with a telescope

I WANT TO BELIEVE. 🛸
These pictures make it seem like trying to build anything on the far side like has been talked about would be an incredibly risky play.
I see the bases 🛸
Freaking space am I right?
Need some sandpaper to buff that out
Looks like the other side!
It’s just amazing to see how much of a shield Luna has been for us!
So where are those “towering buildings” *theorists* loved to go on about
