Scott Michael Hughes of Delphi, Indiana, age 61, passed away on April 1, 2026.
Born February 20, 1965, Scott was the son of Connie Lucille Bennett Hughes (Lebanon, IN) and the late Ralph Earnest Hughes (Delphi, IN). He was raised in Carroll County, where he built a life rooted in family, agriculture, friendship and community.
A 1983 graduate of Delphi Community High School, Scott also completed the Purdue Short Course through Purdue University, further deepening his connection to farming and agricultural life. He was a 10-year 4-H member, raising and showing steers and was involved in FFA. He was known for his strong work ethic and his willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed.
Scott had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, dogs, and mushroom hunting. He was an active presence in his family, including years spent supporting 4-H and attending countless games, events, and competitions. He also found joy in cooking, especially grilling and hosting fish fries and barbecues for family and friends.
Scott remained closely connected to his community in Carroll County, where he formed lasting friendships and created memories that will be cherished by many. Throughout his life, he was surrounded by family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and quiet moments.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Hughes; and grandparents: Riley and Vivian Inman Bennett of Lebanon, IN; and Arlie and Lucile Wolf Hughes of Delphi, IN.
Scott is survived by his mother, Connie Hughes (Carmel, IN, formerly of Delphi, IN); sister, Robyn Hughes-Perry and her husband, John Perry (Brownsburg, IN); niece, Erika Steuerwald and her husband, Adam (Zionsville, IN); nephew, Blaine Hall and his wife, Chelsea (Danville, IN); great-niece and nephew, Theo and Mabel Hall; stepdaughter, Chelsea Marburger (Indianapolis, IN); and stepson, Zach Marburger and his wife, Kelly (Niles, MI), along with extended family and many friends.
Scott will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and the steady presence he provided to those who knew him. He played a very important and pivotal role in helping to raise Chelsea and Zach.
The family has designated Carroll County 4-H for memorial contributions in Scott’s honor. The family kindly requests no gifts or flowers.
Visitation: Friday, April 17, from 3 – 6 p.m. at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., 421 E Main St., Delphi.
Visitation and Service: Saturday, April 18, additional visitation from 10–11 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at Delphi United Methodist Church, 1796 N. US-421, Delphi, IN, with Rev. Todd Ladd officiating
