U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) celebrated the House passage on Wednesday of the Deporting Fraudsters Act of 2026, a bill he cosponsored that would render aliens inadmissible and deportable from the United States if they admit to or are convicted of defrauding the U.S. government or unlawfully receiving federal, state, or local public benefits.

Rep. Carter signed on as a cosponsor of the bill, H.R. 1958, in January. The legislation was introduced in March 2025 by bill sponsor U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor (R-OH) and now moves to the Senate.

“Illegal alien fraudsters are draining taxpayer dollars and taking benefits from American citizens,” Rep. Carter said. “I proudly co-sponsored the Deporting Fraudsters Act because it’s common sense: if you steal from the United States and the most vulnerable in our society, you have no right to be here. I applaud the leadership of Rep. Taylor for working to protect American citizens against waste, fraud, and abuse.”

Rep. Taylor framed the legislation as strengthening the Trump administration’s broader immigration enforcement efforts.

“Americans work too hard to have their tax dollars and benefits stolen by illegal aliens who shouldn’t be here in the first place,” he said. “My Deporting Fraudsters Act will bolster the Trump Administration’s efforts to do just that…”

U.S. Reps. Bob Latta (R-OH), Michael Rulli (R-OH), Randy Feenstra (R-IA), Mike Bost (R-IL), and August Pfluger (R-TX) also were among the 34 cosponsors of the bill.
