I recently learned about Astrophobia. Which is the fear of space. While I don't think I naturally have this phobia, I completely understand where it comes from. Seeing how large our universe is compared to ourselves, is unsettling to say the least. We truly cannot comprehend how large it is. I watched a scale comparison the other day and watching our planet get smaller and smaller felt terrifying.
Does anyone else feel as if space is scary?
I came across this video about the fear of space that got me thinking about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvSrSg5VSis

It makes me feel excited, so much to explore and discover.
It’s terrifying. But also fascinating. I have a pretty bad fear of such large spaces, so I bought Space Engine so I could virtually explore space and desensitize myself.
For some people the scale of the universe is terrifying. For others it’s comforting. Our problems get very small, very fast.
I find it more frustrating than scary.
I want to go places and see things, but I know that even if I had Elon Musk money and started building a ship tomorrow, the best I could hope for is to maybe get to Saturn and back without being perma dead.
Yes, I know I wouldn’t be in great shape, but its more about the size of space than the hazards.
As an astronomer, I can comprehend how vast the observable universe is. We’re enormous compared to the nucleus of an atom, which can also be measured and therefore understood. The universe to me is something to be measured at ever increasing resolution, cataloguing everything along the way.
Generally speaking, the more you understand or the deeper your knowledge is about a topic in the natural sciences, the more relatable it becomes. A fundamental understanding of physics teaches you the how and why of chemistry, which emerges as biology in some situations (and given the right conditions).
