Patagonia, Chile a place known for rugged landscapes and wild beauty has now added mystery to its resume. A wildlife camera snapped three photos in just two seconds of blinding lights blazing through the night sky, out of 365,000+ images collected over months.
Some are whispering comparisons to Hessdalen lights in Norway. Others are speculating: extraterrestrial visitors? secret tech? Indigenous Mapuche folklore even mentions “bad lights” in the skies.

As someone who sees these same lights in the sky quite regularly where I am, I wish I had more answers for you. But from what I’ve researched about my own area, it looks like I am in a highly anomalous magnetic area. Meaning the magnetism here switches wildly between very magnetic to 0 magnetism very distinctly as you travel through the landscape.
I see them at 3 am almost every night if the skies are clear, but the numbers of them vary quite a lot from night to night.
