The comet will not collide with the Sun: why?

Comet C/2026 A1 (MAPS), discovered earlier this year, will not collide with the Sun, as previously thought. Astronomers say it will pass near the Sun and may be one of the most stunning celestial events in decades.

A detailed study of the comet’s orbit shows that it will not fall on the Sun, but will pass at a distance of about 161 thousand kilometers from its surface. The comet’s closest approach to the Sun will occur on April 4.
