Universal Pictures has released the official trailer for Disclosure Day, the upcoming sci-fi film from director Steven Spielberg. Following the earlier teaser and the Super Bowl spot and first look featurette, this new trailer delivers the most substantial look yet at the story, the characters, and the looming revelation at the centre of the film. Watch the trailer above, then read on for more on what this latest preview reveals.

A Whistleblower and a Hidden Truth

While we have known for some time that Disclosure Day revolves around the public revelation of extraterrestrial life, the new trailer offers a much clearer sense of how the film’s central characters fit into the unfolding narrative.

Josh O’Connor appears to play a whistleblower who has obtained sensitive information tied to the existence of aliens. At one point he describes what he has taken as “Secrets. The data they paid me to protect.” When he shares the information with a character played by Eve Hewson, her stunned reaction says plenty about the scale of what he has uncovered. “Are they people?” she asks. “No,” he replies.

Another striking moment involves Emily Blunt’s character, introduced as a weather reporter who suddenly becomes possessed by an alien presence while live on air. Speaking through her in a series of eerie clicks, the mysterious entity appears to be communicating with humanity, while viewers around the world watch the unsettling broadcast unfold. Interestingly, O’Connor’s character seems to be one of the only people capable of understanding what is being said.

The trailer also introduces Colin Firth as a figure who appears to operate within a government agency or powerful institution. In one scene he projects a holographic version of himself to confront Hewson’s character, suggesting access to advanced technology tied to the broader cover-up. At another point he warns, “That truth will upend all established order across the entire world.”

We also see glimpses of Colman Domingo’s character, who hints at the scale of deception surrounding the extraterrestrial secret. “This semi 9-year terror campaign of lies has to end,” he says in one moment, before adding later, “When the time is right, everything will become clear.”

The trailer closes with a striking image of what appears to be an alien spacecraft breaking through the clouds.

At this point, it certainly looks like a film about extraterrestrials and the public revelation of their existence. Still, this trailer gives off the sense that there could be more going on beneath the surface. Whether that means a major twist, a deeper agenda, or something stranger hiding in plain sight, it would not be surprising if the extraterrestrial angle is only part of the bigger picture.

A Spielberg Reunion with Familiar Collaborators

Disclosure Day sees Spielberg reuniting with screenwriter David Koepp, who previously collaborated with the director on Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Spielberg is also credited with the film’s story.

The talent behind the camera is just as impressive. Legendary composer John Williams returns to score the film, while longtime Spielberg collaborator Janusz Kaminski serves as cinematographer. Editing duties fall to Sarah Broshar (The Fabelmans, Spielberg’s West Side Story), and production design is handled by Adam Stockhausen (Ready Player One, The French Dispatch).

Release Date

The film is produced by Kristie Macosko Krieger and Spielberg, with Adam Somner and Chris Brigham serving as executive producers.

Disclosure Day opens in Australian cinemas on June 11 and in U.S. cinemas on June 12.
