Dalton Evans, who attends St Gabriel’s CofE, took inspiration from the book Turns Out I’m an Alien by Lou Treleaven to create his extraterrestrial outfit, complete with an LED-lit spaceship and dome.
His mother, Lindsay Prime, said: “He has always loved all things space from a very young age, and he has been reading the book Turns Out I’m an Alien by Lou Treleaven.

“He has been reading books since the age of 2 and is never without one most times of the day.
“He decided he wanted to dress as an alien and thought it would be cool to have his own UFO.
“We came up with the concept by researching homemade UFOs and thought using an umbrella as part of the dome was an excellent idea.
“Dalton was out in the garden spray painting the cardboard silver and he used his makedo cardboard creation set and he added screws around the spaceship.
“He wanted some fancy lights so we used led strip lights attached all around the sides.”
The costume took a week to assemble.
Lindsay Prime said: “We have been working on this project together as a family for a week, with lots of duct tape, cardboard and zip ties!”
World Book Day, celebrated on the first Thursday of March, encourages children across the UK and Ireland to celebrate reading by dressing as their favourite characters.
We’ll be publishing a selection of the best photos in the Basingstoke Gazette on March 12.
