Comets Honoring First Responders

UTICA, N.Y. — The Utica Comets paid tribute to local firefighters and EMTs at the Adirondack Bank Center during their annual First Responder Appreciation Night.

The event featured the team wearing firefighter-themed jerseys and the Utica Fire Department Color Guard presenting the colors for the national anthem. Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll, Rome Fire Chief David Gratch and Clark Mills Fire Chief Greg Kulpa took part in the ceremonial puck drop.

Michael Lehr, vice president of communications and content for the Utica Comets, said, “Its been a really awesome experience getting to know these people, telling their stories and making them part of the game. Its obviously really important to us to not only celebrate veterans like we do consistently in this building but also our first responders because they make such a huge difference. I know the guys are really excited about wearing the jerseys and representing them as well.”

The Comets plan to host their Law Enforcement Appreciation Night on April 10 with special jerseys.
