The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) issued a Silver Alert Friday, asking for help in finding McCasland.
Search continues
Officials said it was not known what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance nor where he was heading to.
“Due to his medical issues law enforcement is concerned for his safety,” the BCSO said.
As the search enters its fourth day, the FBI has confirmed that it is assisting the local sheriff’s office and New Mexico Search and Rescue.
“The FBI Albuquerque Field Office is involved in this investigation, as it is standard practice for the FBI to assist our local law enforcement partners if we have a tool, tactic, or technique that could benefit their investigations,” a spokesperson said in a statement to the New York Post (NYP).
“The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is leading this investigation.”
The sheriff’s office has made numerous attempts to search for McCasland, including using K9s, drones and helicopters to search the area.
“There are no signs of any criminal activity such as a kidnapping or anything else,” a spokesperson told the NYP.
“His disappearance is only being investigated as a missing person/silver alert at this time.”
Residents have been urged to stay alert and report any potential sightings of McCasland.
McCasland is a now-retired general, but during his time with the US Air Force, he held several high-ranking and influential positions in science, space and technology research.
Some of his roles put him at the center of major national defense technology and space initiatives.
Commander of Air Force base with ties to UFO and rocket research
McCasland served as the commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, a critical base in Ohio, according to his Air Force bio.
He was also in charge of a global workforce of roughly 10,800 workers.
Many alien enthusiasts have claimed that the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base has links to various UFO sightings.
The base is known for the military’s infamous investigation, Project Blue Book, which looked into unidentified flying objects in the 1950s and 1960s.
Project Blue Book went on for 12 years, investgating over 12,000 UFO sightings, of which 701 remained “unidentified,” according to Origins.
The Ohio base is also known for its role in “[developing] materials, processes, and advanced manufacturing technologies for aircraft, spacecraft, missiles, rockets, and ground-based systems and their structural, electronic and optical components.”
McCasland’s name also popped up in the 2016 WikiLeaks, a release of emails from Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta.
In exchanges between Podesta, and Tom DeLonge, a prominent UFO researcher and Blink 182 guitarist, DeLonge described McCasland as a key adviser on several projects pertaining to UFOs, according to Newsweek.
