The Cottey Comet softball team enjoyed playing on the home diamond for the first time this season with a doubleheader sweep over the Warriors of Sterling College.
In the opener, the Comets pounded out fifteen hits including homers from Amelia Gassman and Makayla Snyder on their way to a 7-5 victory.
Cottey had seven extra base hits with five doubles to go along with the two home runs.
Gassman’s two run home run in the first gave the Comets a 2-1 lead. After a two run home run in the second by Sterling tied the contest, a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the frame put Cottey back on top 3-2. Snyder broke the game open with a three run bomb in the third to make it 6-2.
Last week’s AMC Player of the Week, Grayce Taylor was 3 for 4. Five Comets had at least two hits.
