anime or not, this is probably one of the most genuinely thoughtful and terrifying depiction of the first contact with extraterrestrials. are they alive? yes. organic? no. are they sentient? not really. are they unstoppable? yes. can we communicate with them meaningfully? not really.
it's really difficult to designate them as a civilization, while they are certainly spacefaring with faster than light capability, which is considered beyond plausible in reality.
but what if we encounter that kind of beings?
