SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County defeated West Carter 81-68 in its regular season finale on Friday, Feb. 20.

The Hornets improved to 8-21 after notching the win.

Magoffin County excelled offensively, shooting 56.9 percent (29-of-51) from the field. The Hornets shot 50.0 percent (seven-of-14) from three-point range, thriving beyond the arc.

Magoffin County shot 80.0 percent (16-of-20) form the free throw line.

Active inside, Magoffin County outrebounded West Carter 32-27.

A balanced offensive attack for Magoffin County featured four scorers in double figure. Walker Russell led Magoffin County to the win, scoring a team-high 23 points for the Hornets. Russell connected on three of four three-point field goal attempts.

Accompanying Russell in double figures for Magoffin County, Michael Trusty scored 17 points, Maycen Allen netted 14 points, and Jackson Gilliland tallied 10 points.

Eight players entered each team’s column.

Following Gilliland in Magoffin County’s scoring column were Caleb Lovely scored (eight points), Parker Bowling (five points), Evan Reed (two points) and Dason Burchett (two points).

West Carter shot 42.3 percent (30-of-71) from the field. The Comets shot 28.6 percent (six-of-21) from three-point range.

West Carter shot 100.0 percent (two-of-two) from the free throw line.

Nathaniel Hale scored a game-high 25 points for the Comets. Joining Hale in double figures for West Carter, Brody Boggs scored 11 points, and Christian Clark netted 10 points.

Barely missing double figures for West Carter, Tabor Tackett tallied nine points.

The other scorers for West Carter were Nathan Webb (seven points), Wade Lawson (two points), Jamison Wagoner (two points) and Peyton Nichols (two points).

Tackett provided a strong presence inside for West Carter, clearing out a game-high 10 rebounds.
