Some of Hollywood’s biggest names and most cherished franchises will be feted at the 53rd Annual Saturn Awards. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films announced Monday special honors that will be presented at the ceremony, which celebrates the best in genre entertainment. The event takes place March 8 in Los Angeles and will be hosted by Joel McHale.
Tom Cruise will present the Visionary Award to his longtime Mission: Impossible collaborator, Oscar-winning writer, director, and producer Christopher McQuarrie, while James Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd will accept the George Pal Memorial Award honoring the 40th anniversary of Aliens.
Guillermo del Toro will also be on hand to present the award to the creative team, with cast members including Carrie Henn, Michael Biehn, Ricco Ross, Jenette Goldstein, Mark Rolston, and Cynthia Scott attending. Matt Winston will accept on behalf of his father, Oscar-winning legend Stan Winston, the film’s special effects makeup creator and creature effects supervisor.
Star Trek will receive the Saturn Hall of Fame Award, recognizing “franchises whose legacy extends far beyond the screen and into the cultural fabric of generations.”
Meanwhile, Titus Welliver will receive the Lance Reddick Legacy Award. Created to honor the late Lance Reddick’s “extraordinary spirit,” the award “celebrates performers who serve as true goodwill ambassadors in the industry.” Welliver starred alongside Reddick in Bosch.
Founded in 1972, the Saturn Awards remain the only awards program dedicated exclusively to recognizing achievements in science fiction, fantasy, horror, superhero and action-adventure storytelling.
