I want to share a massive but rarely discussed UFO wave that occurred in Central Turkey between 1981 and 1982. This wasn't just a "light in the sky" story; it involved thousands of witnesses, including high-ranking military officials, police, and local governors.

The Context: Starting in December 1981, the cities of Niğde and Aksaray became a "hotspot." For nearly a year, unidentified objects—mostly elliptical and emitting green, orange, and red lights—hovered over the region.

Key Incidents from the Archives:

  • The Military Encounter (Dec 25, 1981): Gendarmerie Commander Captain Orhan Çelen arrived at a sighting near a factory. He attempted to report to the Governor via radio, but his device failed, emitting only static. He later stated the object was the size of a large room and hovered at 800 meters.
  • The "Screaming" Electronics: On Jan 1, 1982, while an object passed over the Ihlara Hotel, the resident musician's electronic organ began emitting distorted, alien tones. He couldn't tune the instrument until the object left the airspace.
  • Engine Failures: Multiple reports from the Aksaray-Konya highway stated that cars stalled and headlights died as 150-meter-wide light discs hovered directly above the road.
  • The Communication Attempt: On Jan 9, 1982, a group of teachers and local journalists tried to signal a UFO using flashlights (coding 1-2-3). To their shock, the object flashed back in the exact same sequence and descended toward them before disappearing.
  • Physical Debris (Sept 10, 1982): Two metallic spheres, roughly the size of propane tanks, crashed in the village of Uluağaç. They left small craters and scorched the earth. These objects (weighing about 10kg each) were seized by authorities and sent to Ankara for "scientific analysis." Their whereabouts remain unknown.

Official Statements: The Governor of Niğde, Güner Orbay, went on national television on January 14, 1982, and openly admitted: "Since Dec 15, an unknown object has been roaming our skies. It descends to 800 meters and is observed by our people with great interest. I cannot explain what it is; it is a matter for scientists."

Why is this forgotten? The 1980s were a period of heavy military censorship in Turkey. While local newspapers were full of these stories, the international press barely covered it. A book was later written about it (UFO Gerçeği: Niğde-Aksaray Olayı), but the physical evidence (the spheres) vanished into state archives.

Was this a secret Soviet tech test during the Cold War, or something truly non-human? The electromagnetic effects and the coordinated "replies" to flashlight signals suggest a high level of intelligence.
